Problem with C3 slotted oem wheels on an '82

I had sold a set of late model C3 slotted aluminum wheels to an individual out of state. He is claiming that the wheels are touching the front calipers, but the rears fit fine. The bolt pattern and hub opening is ok, but he thinks he'll need a wheel spacer to make them clear the caliper. My guess was maybe he had aftermarket calipers, but said he bought a new one and its the exact same. These fit perfectly fine on my '69 when I had them...

Can anyone help me out? Looking through my corvette parts catalog, all front caliper parts numbers are the same from '68-82. What could be the problem?
