Front Turn Signal Problem and new Multifunction Switch did not work not

Ok, this is the second post regarding the issue. I appreciate the suggestions up to this point, and would still welcome advice from those who have been helping. But I need this to reach more people than continuing on the last post I started. I am going to re-explain the problem I am having, and I will be more specific and detailed this time.

My front/driver side turn signal is not working, period. I have replaced all of the bulbs up front. When the car is on, and the daytime running lights come on, the driver side doesn't work. When the switch flips to parking lights and headlights it turns on, but when the turn signal is engaged it does not flash. When the turn signal is engaged on the driver side, it hyper flashes and the back lights hyperflash. When the hazards on engaged all lights work properly except the front driver side turn signal.

Back story: I put LED tail lights in about 4 months ago, they would hyperflash at times, and then for a while worked perfectly fine. During this time the front driver side light that is currently not working was working, even when the hyperflash was going, it would be hyperflashing. Recently it stopped working and that is when I started diagnosing the problem.

What I've tried: I've put the tail lights back to stock, I have changed all the front bulbs. I tried without the LED license plate lights. And with help diagnosing the problem, today I swapped the multifunction switch. It didn't fix the problem. I am getting really frustrated with this because today I bought a multifuction switch that cannot be returned, so now I have a 130 dollar switch that I have no use for.

Please!!!!! Has anyone had this issue before????? I really need help. Its a safety issue but also driving me insane. Here's the other thing, I want to eventually put the LED's back and convert the rest to LED. I found a flasher unit replacement that works instead of the resistors with the LEDs so the resistors are not needed. With this flasher I feel like I can upgrade the rest of the lighting. Sorry about the length, but I need to be as descriptive as possible to give all the information needed. Any help would be much appreciated. -Davis-2001 Z06

Just installed texas speed longtubes and mid

Figured id post on here for anybody wondering, although I know plenty others have. Took me about 13 hours with a few complications removing the old exhaust. 15' z51 did not remove any oil lines or valve covers, which obviously extends the time. Had some issues getting the car to fit on the lift so that took a bit. Also stripped out a few of those darn bolts that connect manifolds to cat pipes, ended up cutting passenger side exhaust off.

But after all that crap was said and done texas speed long tubes went in like butter, absolutely wonderful. I did make the mistake of not putting on mid pipe with headers loose so I took a ratchet strap and a mallet and got it all on no problem. Also put on the tunnel plate supplied from them great quality.

I am still not sure how I feel about the sound of it versus a c6z but it's growing on me, it's fairly loud, catless mid stock axle back and always in track mode. I think im getting some seat of the pants feeling but it might just be because it's loud, I will have to run a ls3 vette that was even with me to see any differences.

I will never ever do it mostly on my own again, although I said the same with my c5z on jack stands. I can take some pics later if anybody needs or answer anything, if I did it again it would be much quicker had lack of needed tools aswell. But those four bolts attaching manifold to first cats is awful I recommend chopping it off. And the front o2's were not coming out at all even with a torch, but rears popped off no problem.

LOL!!!! The 2nd worst POTUS ever dumpin' on the worst POTUS ever foreign policy

WOW......you know you're having a bad day when Jimmy Carter dumps on your foreign policy. :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:

Yes, we know Jimma's bumbling Dem idiot, but then again, aren't all Dems. But ya gotta laugh when the 2nd worst pres ever goes after the worst pres foreign policy.....stating we are worse off now then when Bush left office.:rofl::rofl: Poor Dems.:lol::lol:

Jimmy Carter hits Obama on foreign policy, calls accomplishments ‘minimal’

President Obama was criticized last week by the president he is often compared to, Jimmy Carter.

Carter told an Aspen Institute audience that Obama's accomplishments on foreign policy "have been minimal" and that the United States' influence is "lower than it was six or seven years ago."

After proclaiming John Kerry "one of the best secretaries of state we've ever had,":eek::eek: Carter dumped cold water on Obama's record abroad.

"On the world stage, I think [Obama's accomplishments] have been minimal," Carter said. "I think he has done some good things domestically, like health reform and so forth. But on the world stage, just to be objective about it, I can't think of many nations in the world where we have a better relationship now than when he took over."

Carter declined to blame Obama for the U.S.'s dismal foreign policy outlook, stating simply that circumstances "have evolved." However, he did state that the U.S. had suffered a reversal of fortunes in foreign policy since Obama took over from President George W. Bush.

"I would say the U.S.'s influence and prestige and respect in the world is probably lower than it was six or seven years ago," Carter said.
Hmmmm......just the opposite of what Barry the Liar said just a few weeks ago.

As president, Carter presided over a series of foreign policy challenges as Iran seized American hostages and the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. He spent the last year of his presidency trying to counter these threats, in part by articulating the Carter Doctrine, a reversal from his previously standoffish foreign policy.

C4 l98 oil leaking.

My 1990 c4 has adopted an oil leak that is hitting my exhaust when I gun it. The smoke is coming from the rear of the engine adjacent to the dipstick, and cylinder six. I have replaced a few parts on it attempting to cure the problem, but no luck.
Parts replaced:
- valve cover gasket
- oil pressure sender unit
- dip stick tube
- valve cover

No smoke is coming out of the exhaust so I think I'm good on the internals. Any in put is appreciated, thanks.

Starter help!

OK, so I am getting SO tantalizingly close to getting this car on the road its driving me nuts! Car is a 78 with a full roller 383 stroker. I had the car running, but needing tuned better and replaced a leaking water pump. I should mention that while I was at it, I tinkered with the elec choke a bit as it did not seem to be working. After getting it sealed back up I have been unable to get it to run for more than a few seconds. I am sure this is a matter of timing and/or carb tuning, but the more immediate issue is that after 20 min or so of trying to get it running, the starter engaged and would not stop! I had to disconnect the battery (not easy to do in this car when you are frantic!). Wires are not hot, and although there was a smell from the starter, it dissipated rather quickly once I got the battery disconnected. Any idea whats going on? DId I fry my starter?

97 year old car jacked.

Quote:

A man accused of stealing a vehicle occupied by a 97-year-old woman in Warren was charged Monday with carjacking.

The woman sat in her son’s 2011 Chevrolet Malibu while he went into the Home Depot store in the Hoover-Eleven Center shopping center at approximately 7:45 p.m. Friday. With the keys in the ignition, the suspect, 29, entered the unlocked car and ordered the elderly woman from Hamtramck to get out of the vehicle.

The woman, who uses a walker to get around on foot, slowly got out of the car but held onto the door to stabilize herself, Detective Cpl. Paul Houtos said.

“He pulls forward, backward and forward to shake her from the car. She was holding onto the door for support,” Houtos said. “She wasn’t going to fight him over the car.”

The 5-foot-1, 100-pound woman fell to the ground, and the carjacker fled south on Hoover Road.

The nonagenarian suffered a mild knee injury during the incident but declined medical treatment.

The victim’s 63-year-old son exited the store and contacted General Motors’ OnStar service which used GPS to locate the Malibu in Hamtramck, police said. Officers arrested Damian Jablonowski, 29, in the parking lot of a party store near Conant and Carpenter.

Jablonowski, of Warren, resides on Frazho Road near the shopping center. He was arraigned Monday by 37th District Judge Matthew Sabaugh on charges of carjacking and driving while license suspended. He was jailed in lieu of $250,000 cash or surety bond.

A probable-cause conference in court is scheduled for July 7. A hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for Jablonowski to stand trial is slated for July 14.

94 Corvette Rear Gear Swap Suggestions

I have a 94 convertible automatic with the stock .273 rear gear. Basically stock power plant 84K miles with only air induction and exhaust mods. Looking to improve the acceleration for the street.

Thinking about going with a .345 rear gear ring and pinion setup. Anybody run this gear before on a stock application and how did it work out for you. I assume it still cruise well down the highway at less than 2500 RPM at 75-80mph.

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

2016 Shipments/Availability

Some 2016s were build prior to the week of 6/22.

I had a TPW of 6/29 and I did the Buyer's Tour on 6/25 and 6/26.

Was told that there would be a two week QA hold on the 2016s.

So, the question is: When will the first 2016s be available for Museum Delivery or shipped out of the plant.

Would members with early 2016 Builds check with Customer Service and/or the Museum, and post what your build date was and when the car was shipped or scheduled for Museum Delivery.

I am hoping that this will provide all of us 2016 customers, some guidance on when the cars will be available to us.

Thanks

Alternator problem or not

2005 C6 (110,000 miles)

This summer I notice upon starting the car in morning that the battery indicator show my car voltage around 12.5 voltage and I my dash display indicator charger malfunction. I then apply gas to raise the rpm pass 1000 and the problem indicator goes away and the voltage ramps up to around 14 voltage like normal.

It this a normal thing or is my alternator starting to go bad and this is my hint.:toetap:

ratio math

My limited math skills are failing me today. I have a 60 corvette that I changed over to a tach drive HEI dist. Now I want to use a ratio adapter to run the stock tach. I know that the distributor runs at 1/2 engine speed rpm. I have found an adapter that speeds it up 100%. Is this the one that I need or look for one that speeds it up 50%? I know this isn't rocket but it's sure stumping me. Thanks

Escort Max/Max2 with Blendmount- GPS signal issue?

Anybody running an Escort Max or Max 2 with the C7 Blendmount having problems holding a GPS signal? I can't keep the signal ( it comes on for very short periods) and wonder if the mounting logistics are blocking the GPS antenna. When I used it in other vehicles with their suction mount GPS worked 100%.

Any body have the issue, and maybe the solution?

and hardly ever make a fuss about it. Likewise there is never much discussion about how our laws should address adultery.

Why not take the same approach when it comes to gay marriage? That it represents a Biblical transgression, but they aren't going to worry too much about how our legal system deals with the issue?

Published 31 years ago. Still true.

545 people are responsible for the mess, but they unite in a common con

By Charley Reese

(This column was originally published in the Orlando Sentinel on Feb. 3, 1984.)

http://ift.tt/1LFx61B

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the constitutional authority to vote n appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. The Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. the Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of 238 million- are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Bank because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I exclude all of the special interest and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Don't you see now the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. they cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of Tip O'Neill, who stood up and criticized Ronald Reagan for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept. it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes. O'Neill is speaker of the House. He is the leader of the majority party. He and his fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.

Just 545 Americans have fouled up this great nation.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 235 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted - by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise complete power over the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it's because they want them in Lebanon.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical force like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. they and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.

Is it Time for Civil Disobedience?

By: Dan Bongino

________________________________

When the government rules by illegitimate means, is it legitimate to peacefully stand in defiance and disobey? The answer to this question is a reluctant “yes.”

I have thought about this question for a long time and, as a former police officer and federal agent who pledged his life to upholding and enforcing the law, I take this call to action very seriously.

In a piece out yesterday by Becky Gerritson of the Wetumpka Tea Party, a group victimized by the IRS targeting scandal, she summarizes the despicable behavior of IRS officials since the inception of the congressional inquiry into the targeting scandal. Did you know that the IRS destroyed the backup tapes containing emails written by Lois Lerner and others, seven months AFTER the order to preserve the tapes was given? My life is political activism but, after the torrent of news emanating from the Supreme Court and from the overseas terror attacks, I nearly missed this stunning piece of information. Is this the act of a government worthy of our respect?

Combine this outrageous development in the IRS scandal with the recent Supreme Court rulings declaring that the Court has the power to unilaterally rewrite and reinterpret laws to further a destructive political agenda, and we now have a government free from any constitutional restraint, and American citizens living under the yoke of it. Although none of this happened overnight, the pace by which the liberty train is speeding away from the station is rapidly accelerating.

Fighting back strictly through the political process has proven to be effective only in delaying the day of reckoning and it is now clear that we must take from the new political aristocracy what they crave most: legitimacy and acceptance. We must pursue parallel tracks for change to restrain this out-of-control government both through the formal political process and public action.

If the far Left and their political overseers deem it appropriate to weaponize the IRS to assault their political opponents – to attack Christians for the sincere exercise of their religious beliefs, to use the machine of government to force free American citizens, against their will, to spend their limited financial resources to purchase government sanctioned health insurance at the expense of the health of themselves and their families, and to bankrupt the nation through a mathematically certain tax-and-spend formula for misery – then it’s time to consider open defiance to take back what has been lost.

It is time to fully embrace an Article V Convention of the States to reestablish the powers of the states and re-impose clear limits on the growing federal monolith. Former Reagan administration official, conservative activist, and popular radio show host Mark Levin has been passionately advocating for this approach since the release of his bestselling book The Liberty Amendments.
The far Left worships at the altar of inescapable federal power because they fully understand that when states act as separate incubators of policy, that Americans will choose economic, healthcare, religious, and educational freedom. And the resulting exodus from deep blue states anchored to an anti-liberty approach will discredit their agenda and destroy the patina of a public imprimatur and their false air of legitimacy. Federal power prevents an easy escape from the far Left agenda and subjects all Americans to their destructive agenda, regardless of how much they resist. And, while I appreciate the passionate advocacy opposing a convention on the grounds that it could result in a “runaway convention,” I counter by asserting that we are already living with a government engaging in a de facto ongoing constitutional convention by ignoring the plain language of the law and the Constitution to impose an increasingly liberal agenda which is dissolving individual liberty and freedom.

Secondly, the likelihood of 38 states ratifying a radical amendment is low given the current political power of the Republican Party. As the Supreme Court made clear with their recent rulings on Obamacare, marriage, and housing, the country is already free from its constitutional moorings and is charting a dangerous new course towards rule by men, not law. History has proven, without question, that when government by discretion, rather than by law is allowed to continue unchallenged, that the result is a dangerous concentration of power in a zero sum battle for freedom.

In the short-run, now is the time for peaceful and responsible civil disobedience. The Obama administration has been engaging in non-civil, and constitutional disobedience for many years now through their usurpation of power and their weaponizing of the tools of government. And, with a largely feckless response from a frightened and shell-shocked Republican Congress, it is up to conservatives to blaze the trail forward. If our elected Republican leadership refuses to lead, then we will demonstrate to their timid souls what bravery and sacrifice look like.

It is now incumbent upon conservatives to take every opportunity to respectfully and peacefully protest the attacks on our liberty and freedom. When told to sit down at town hall meetings, refuse to do so until your questions are answered. Continue to boldly question the politicians supporting this new post-constitutional path forward even as you are dragged out in protest.

As a Secret Service agent I witnessed firsthand the power of a small group, unafraid of the legal consequences, to influence and change policy by refusing to be silenced. Pastors and spiritual leaders need to stand in defiance of the ongoing attacks on people of faith and speak boldly and proudly. Let the government further discredit itself by asking an already discredited IRS to silence the millions of American voices of faith crying out to be left alone by the power-hungry, Washington DC cocktail party crowd.

When I walked away from a position I loved as a special agent with the United States Secret Service I left behind a lifetime of financial security to fight back by running for office. I didn’t prevail but I never gave up that fight and when my wife and I, as a result of our decision to walk away, came across difficult financial times we knew the sacrifice was worth it.

Faith teaches us that sacrifice is the only ticket to the second creation and we are all going to have to sacrifice something. Small acts of disobedience in the face of the existential threats we face to our constitutional republic are a small price to pay to defend the most blessed and prosperous country in mankind’s history. We were gifted this country by prior generations who sacrificed their lives, limbs and treasures to ensure we remain that shining light on the hill. It’s up to us to ensure that the light never dims.

28" drag radial at the track on stock C5Z?

Been doing as much research as I can lately before I purchase a C5Z. I noticed at stock level you have to shift into 4th at 112 before you go through the traps.

Anyone try a 28" drag radial to give them a little extra room? Looks like it would give you a little more wiggle room (117 mph) . If so did you're ET/MPH get better?

T56 Magnum Install 78 Corvette.

Here are my Install Notes when I did my TH350 conversion to a T56 Magnum 6-speed.

Car Started as

1978 corvette ZZ383 Crate motor, TH350 stock transmission. 3.08 Rear.

My First Highway mileage test came in at 27.8 MPG (23.4 MPH US)

My 1/4 mile ET isn't great I dont know how to launch a manual very well yet. Same as when I had a auto (TH350) 13.8
But I know the potential is there because my 1/4 speed is up 5 MPH. 104MPH

1. White Lightning Offset Shifter Mechanism (2.25” offset)- Solid billet construction, bias adjustable.
2. Seamless DOM Driveshaft Assembly - Race Balanced, Solid U-Joints
3. American Power Train flange slip yoke (IMPORTANT POINT to allow removal with diff and transmission in place)
4. Modular Reverse Light Harness
5. Modular Reverse Lock-Out Harness
6. Speedometer Conversion - Mechanical (connects to existing mechanical speedo)
T56 Transmission came with a rubber transmission mount.
Bowtie Overdrive T56 Crossmember. (needs mounting plate shortened to fit)
Additional misc parts. Custom make electrical harness to connect Reverse Light, Reverse Lock-out, Clutch Neutral safety switch.
Corvette Central PE30A 68-82 BRAKE & CLUTCH PEDAL KIT
Corvette Central Part#:592104 GM#:1993495, 1993495 Neutral safety switch on clutch pedal.

Here is a list of problems that needed to be solved.
1. Cut a hole in the transmission tunnel.
2. Make a custom cover plate to cover hole and seal tunnel
3. Mount the Hydraulic Clutch cylinder (use the factory manual 4-speed firewall location)
4. Cut the mounting plate of the Hydraulic cylinder to make room for the steering column mounting plate.
5. Mount the Hydraulic Reservoir.
6. Clutch Pedal conversion.
7. Clutch pedal ratio between 5-6:1
8. Remove clutch pedal mounting rod & drill hole
9. Reverse neutral safety switch & Hydraulic Rod connections.
10. Grid trim to allow full clutch pedal return with reversed connections. Item 7
11. Modify parking brake cable pulley wheel ( change to 3.5” dia)
12. Widen Tunnel at slip yoke (transmission is longer so factory location needs to be further back)
13. Shim transmission higher.
14. Shorten bolts for offset shifter (bolts hit the transmission frame)
15. Make wiring harness / switch for reverse lockout operation.
16. Make wiring harness for reverse lights
17. Make wiring harness for neutral safety switch. (preinstall on clutch pedal before installing pedals in dash no room for hands later)
18. Modify T56 transmission crossmember (bowtie overdrive t56 unit shorten)
19. Re-route starter positive wire location in tunnel.
20. Pre-install Transmission bolt with transmission breather bracket. No access later during install.
21. You need a offset shifter with flush fasteners or you won’t be able to get the transmission high enough to get good driveline angles.
22. Figure out how to measure your bell housing indexing.
23. Shim the throw out bearing to specs. (American powertrain procedure)
24. Get proper drive shaft lengths ( American powertrain procedure)
25. Determine proper speedo gear for wheel size and diff gears ( American powertrain )
26. Requires offset shifter to fit factory location used 2.25” left offset. ( American powertrain)
27. Purchase / make shift handle and **** I used stock hurst parts.
28. Modified stock hurst shifter handle ( shorten the length by 1 ¼”)
29. Redo the exhaust to route under new crossmember (Previous routing thur the auto factory removable crossmember)

There may be more but I think I remembered most.

First task was to cut a hole in the transmission tunnel.
Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

You will also need to relocate the battery wire cable to allow for better clearance at the rear of the transmission.
Reverse light and neutral safety connections.

Click the image to open in full size.

Once the hole was cut I installed the bell housing without the flywheel or clutch to test the new hole in the tunnel. The transmission is very easy to install without the pilot bearing or clutch in place for fitting.

After hole cute shows stock T56 Shifter Installed.

With offset shifter installed.

Next was to test fit the requirements for the crossmember.

Click the image to open in full size.

The base plate is too long. So I cut a piece off and re-welding it back on the plate.

Click the image to open in full size.

Total base length required from stock T56 crossmember is ~ 5 ¼”.
I also added a ¼” alumimum shim to move the transmission up in the tunnel.
Helps with drive line angles. This transmission is much longer than the original TH350 and creates non stock u joint angles. It was not possible to get perfect angles without additional cutting of the tunnel and changing the transmission shifter cover plates with thinner plates and counter sunk bolt heads. This is for the front and mid shift locations which are closed with cover plates if not used. The Corvette uses the rear shifter location of the T56 Magnum. I did not do this additional mod. I found the drive line angles ~ 4 degree’s at the transmission to drive shaft and 1.75 degree’s at the diff yoke to drive shaft. I didn’t have any vibrations from 0 – 125MPH. So I will leave it for now. I installed the drive shaft and with all weight on the wheels I measured the angles.

Now the drive shaft was ordered after I test fitted the transmission in the car and gave dimensions from the transmission tail housing to the diff yoke flange. American PowerTrain provided the correct length driveshaft which fit the custom slip yoke also from American PowerTrain perfectly. This allows for the removal of the driveshaft without any other drive train component removal (IMPORTANT POINT).

Next you will need to widen the tunnel to allow the slip yoke enough room to move in and out. The stock tunnel location is about 4 inches towards the front of the car. There is a factory indent for the space. I just used a plate and hammer to widen clearance for the slip yoke. I did not need to make any cuts to get the clearance required.

Next I installed the clutch pedal conversion and the hydraulic clutch system. First step is to remove the existing auto pedals. This is the worst part I think. Once the pedals were removed I installed the Hydraulic cylinder. This requires you to drill 4 holes in a very tight location. There is a indicator where the hole should be in a auto car. All you need to do is drill 4 holes and 1 hole for the cylinder rod.

Click the image to open in full size.

Then you need to cut a piece off the mounting plate of the hydraulic cylinder to make room for the steering column plate.

Click the image to open in full size.

Picture from the engine bay side. Needs to be positioned so it doesn't hit the steering column mounting plate as well.

Mount the hydraulic reservoir. Since I already had the best spot taken by my MSD box I created a bracket that mounted on the hood latch plate. I found this more secure than the 3 supplied self tapping screws for the fibreglass firewall. Most have installed this where my MSD box is.

Click the image to open in full size.

Next was to convert the pedal assembly. I started by installing the natural safety switch in the stock location. In order to install the hydraulic clutch kit the supplied rod has a tie rod that connects to the clutch pedal. This requires you to cut off the existing factory rod on the clutch pedal and drill a hole in the same location to install the supplied kit.

Click the image to open in full size.

Once I install the pedals back in the car I ran into a problem. The clutch pedal travel was greater than the cylinder allowed for and the neutral safety switch would never engage (won’t allow the started to turn). The kit likes a 5-6:1 ratio. The stock pedal has a 4.2:1 ratio. So I reversed the connections. Mounting the safety switch to the stock pedal location and moved the pedal to the safety switch location. This gave me about a 5:5 ratio. Now the clutch pedal travel didn’t bottom out and the switch activated as required. Also before you install the clutch pedals also connect the neutral switch harness. It’s almost impossible to connect later.
I made a custom harness from parts from a 1978 Malibu harness. (Friends junk car) I only needed the plastic connector ends and used new connectors from an electrical distributor. (Factory connections) I did not want to make any cuts to the original harness. All connections just plug in like the factory ones did.

Now that the pedals were install the next problem showed up. The clutch pedal would not return to the full release position. (factory rubber stopper) This was because the tie rod from the hydraulic clutch rod hits the body upper frame. Isn’t a problem if you use the stock locations for the neutral switch and the clutch pedal rod. Because I needed to reverse the connections I had to grind a little grove to make room to allow the full pedal travel. I Used the stock rubber stop position. This came with the clutch pedal conversion kit.

I test fitted everything a number of times to make sure I was happy with every step and the fit. Now its time to bolt it all together for the final fitting.

Installed the ZZ383 flywheel which came with the motor. These next steps you must look at and decide what risks you want to take.

1. Install a roller pilot bearing or use a bushing. Tremec recommends a roller bearing. I chose this option. Do this step carefully and don’t damage during install. Many video’s online on this.
2. Dial in the dowel position pins.(bell housing indexing) For a T56 magnum this is not easy step.
Youtube example. The standard bellhousing indexing doesn’t work because the T56 guide mount are not the same as the stock or TKO transmissions. I still checked the bell housing opening to see how well it was machined. Within the specs. If this isn’t done you may have shifting problems and premature wear on the input shaft or other transmission problems. I chose to trust it as is and determine the course of action on how it felt during the break in period. The transmission supplier would not warranty the install if I opened the transmission for this step. (hope for the best).
Next I installed the clutch using the supplied alignment tools and install instructions.
Now its time to install the hydraulic clutch throw out bearing from the kit. Used the supplied video’s from American powertrain.
Part 1 Part 2 Now we are ready to install the transmission. There are a few it is not going to work moments.
1. The transmission mounts to the bell housing with 8 bolts. 7 you can reach inside while in the tight corvette transmission tunnel. 1 you cannot get a hand / tool on to start the bolt. Luckly this bolt location also need to hold the breather tube of the transmission. Prestart the bolt in the hole and thru the breather bracket. You can latter get the long socket on without the bolt falling off. You need multiple u-joints / extension to get it tight. But here’s the big issue. YOU CANNOT INSTALL THE TRANSMISSION WITH THE SHIFTER INSTALLED. I had to remove the shifter to allow the input shaft into the clutch. You cannot raise the transmission high enough and back far enough to get the shaft to align with the clutch. And you cannot preinstall the bell housing on the transmission because you then cannot get the transmission in the tunnel to align with the engine. You cannot move the transmission back enough without hitting the tunnel.
2. Once the transmission is installed I lowered the unit enough to install the offset shifter. I was able to get at all the fasteners to tighten. Also I needed to shorten 3 bolts when installing the white lightning offset shifter; they hit the frame of the transmission. Some from up top and some from underneath. I didn’t get the offset shifter in time (sent the wrong part) so I continued with the stock shifter. The offset one may fit pre-installed but I didn’t wait to see.
3. Installed the Crossmember, transmission mount, shim to raise the transmission
4. Modified the parking brake wheel. I installed a 3.5” to make up the slake in the cable. The position of the bracket is closer to the front, and using the stock wheel would mean to shorten the cable. I decided to make the path longer using a 3.5” wheel. (hardware store).

Also connected the speedo cable adapter (red circle,American powertrain) this converts the tremec ford connection to directly connect to the factory GM Cable. American powertrain part includes the proper gear / # teeth in the converter cable based on your wheel size and diff ratio. All determined by American powertrain.

Click the image to open in full size.

5. Next was to bleed the hydraulic clutch. Their simple instructions to just push the clutch in and out for 10 minutes didn’t work. I had to use the breeder valve. Similar the break bleeding. I then tested the clutch to make sure it worked and I could put the transmission in gear.
6. Installed the drive shaft
7. Filled the transmission with GM syncromesh fluid.(with friction modifiers) Contacted tremec on what to use. Sticker says Dexron III ATF only. Tremec recommended 3 fluids. 1 Dexron III, GM Syncromesh, Mobil 1 ATF. Never found any bad reviews for the GM syncromesh only great reviews.
8. Next I installed the custom cover plate for the hole I made for the offset shifter arm, handle, and choice of shifter ****. Note I used the existing mounting bolts for the auto shifter for the custom cover which included sound/ heat shielding and a rubber boot cover with additional bolts on the side to seal the plate. I made this removable since I cannot remove the transmission without the shifter also being removed.

Click the image to open in full size.

9. I made 3 wiring harnesses,
a. Connect the neutral clutch pedal switch to the factory neutral harness from the auto shifter.

Click the image to open in full size.

b. Connect the backup lights switch to the factory backup light harness
c. Added a reverse lockout switch. This prevents you shifting into R when driving the car. 5th and reverse are in the same direction.
I will be installing a ECU controller that works similar to factory cars. Switch based on speed on the car. Connects to the VSS Speed sensor on the T56. Simple switch for now. Didn't want to connect to brakes since I heal toe down shift at the track.

It spend 3 months doing this conversion. I didn’t order all the parts at once and solved each problem as they came up. I spend time thinking about the best way to solve the problems as not to disturb the factory setup.

Other than the hole in the transmission tunnel, additional widening at the drive shaft, clutch pedal addition, and the hole in the firewall for the hydraulic clutch I can return this car back to auto if desired. All the factory electrical connections where left intact. I kept all the parts removed un modified. I am not sure if I left out any steps since this is a few months in the doing and my memory isn’t the best.

Cost of susp work on 79?

Came across a local 79 C3 for sale in my search for used trucks :*****:

IF the rear trailing arms/susp or front end had to be redone any kind of ballpark? Mainly on the rear.

Havent had a C3 in many yrs and know that stuff can add up super fast.
Car appears to be fairly clean/rebuilt motor but in person who knows

If the price was right it would be something Id want to have done right away and dont currently have a garage, well aware of the Vette tax

Not going to restore anything just hoping to find a clean solid driver (otherwise Id insist on a 4spd), this one caught my eye on the bang/buck factor.

This thing has headers on it also which probably arent legal out here.
These have one or two cats on them?

Track Oil?

What are you guys using for viscosity? I ran Mobil 1 15-50 on a modded LS7 Z. I've got a ZR w/just 1700 miles now. Car is OEM, std cooling & oil pump, so will likely be getting very hot. Is 15-50 too much and maybe I should use 10-40?

Belt numbers (or sizes) for 1969 427/390HP Big Block Corvette

Can anyone tell me what belts are definitively for this car? Its a 1969 Corvette w/ 427 Big Block, 390 HP. Stock.

The 3 belts that are on it now are too large and the 4th one (water pump to crank) is missing, causing a terrible squeal as soon as engine RPMs exceed 3000.

I tried ordering a set of belts from a Corvette parts catalog and they were bigger than whats on there now. I'm also missing the water pump to crank belt completely and want to ensure I have the correct size before undergoing the job of changing these. Part numbers of common brands (dayco, napa, gates) or sizes would be much appreciated. I can't seem to find much info about these belts anywhere.

Also, does anyone know if its normal for the fan to sound like a small jet engine when the RPM is above 1500? The clutch is not seized...but it never seems to freewheel even when the engine is cold, warming up, or at temp. Fan always screams and seems like its moving gale force winds at all time. Could the missing belt be causing this behavior?

Thanks!!

Lee

My "new" 77

I appreciate very much everyone's help over the last couple of months as I've been looking for my dream C3. I found it last week and it now sits comfortably in my garage. Took it on a 250 mile round trip this weekend and it just purred on the interstate and on the back roads. Lots of little things to do, fix the side mirror, weather-proof the t-tops, etc. But so far so good!

Center console frame removal question on 85

I am in the process of trying to remove the center console frame on my auto 85.
I already have the inst. and top shifter bezel, all screws/bolts removed (even the 4 under the felt in the arm rest cubby), and arm rest.

The frame will move, but appears to be teathered down by the wire connector for the seat switches. I have the two screws and metal frame off from behind the connector, and I see two nuts (?) recessed into the connector. Do these also need to be removed to get the connector off?

I have the side frames that extend down the tunnel by the seats pulled out enough to be able to pull the center console frame up about 1/2", but that's all the farther it's going. I have not removed the seats...and would rather cut the damn frame in front of the window switches if needed to get to the shifter before ripping out the seats. I really don't see what harm would be done by cutting the frame.

Any info/tips would be appreciated.

These pics are not of mine, but ones I found on the forum.

This is the frame I am referring to:

I have been a mechanic all of my professional life and couldn't pass up on a 1982 Corvette. She had been sitting in a garage for at least ten years. I dropped a battery, in-tank fuel pump and a starter and with a little tweaking, she fired up and ran as if she was always running. Absolutely no smoke and went into gear fine.
I am very impressed with the Crossfire Injection. Very simple and dependable.
